Adding Images

What you need to know

Pages on a web site are unlike pages in your word processor. Your word processor keeps all text, formatting, font information and images in the document itself. Web pages on the other hand use HTML to mark up the page which is then interpreted in your browser. The graphic elements that you wish to include on the page are "referenced" by this HTML and call into the viewers page when the browser calls that page.

In the case of images, there are two issues that you, the web page creator, must deal with. First you need to "upload" your images to the Internet and secondly you must embed the RapidWeb command to display the image on a given page.

How to upload images

To upload images with RapidWeb we have added an image upload feature to the edit window. At the top of the edit window page you will see the option to upload an image from your computer. Select the type of computer that you have (PC or Mac).

You will then see a dialog box that allows you define the web server directory name (it will have a default value) and ask you for the file to upload. Select the”Browse” button.

Once you have selected “Browse” you will then be presented with folder view of your hard drive. Navigate the directory structure of your hard drive to locate the image that your going to upload:

When you have selected the image that you wish to upload its local path and file name will be inserted in the dialog box. You are ready to start the upload process.

Then select the “Press” button to initiate the image upload. Once the upload is completed you will presented with the following dialog:

Using the option above to “View uploaded File” will allow you to confirm that the url works. If the image doesn’t load double check the syntax of the statement. Remember to not use spaces or non-alphanumeric characters in the name and be sure that the folder that you use is one to which you have the appropriate permissions.

Follow the directions in the dialog box to copy the image URL to your edit box. The basic url will left align the image while the advanced url will right align the image and allow text to flow to its left. Select save in the edit box and your image will appear as follows.
